Is therapy confidential?
Trauma results from an event or series of events that is experienced by an individual as physically harmful, emotionally harmful, and/or life threatening, and causes a person to feel a sense of helplessness.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an official mental health diagnosis characterized by certain symptoms stemming from experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms include intrusive memories, avoidance, negative mood/thoughts, and heightened reactivity. PTSD is treatable often with psychotherapy.
Complex PTSD is more associated with long-lasting trauma that continues or repeats over months or years. It is defined by a combination of behavioral, cognitive, interpersonal, and emotional difficulties.
